Join Yale Blue Green for a special conversation with Veronica Baker Amores, M.A. Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs ’20, founder and executive director of The Global Climbing Initiative (GCI). She will share her unexpected path from graduate research at Yale to building a nonprofit focused on the sustainable growth of climbing around the world.

A climber from Boulder, Colorado with a background in qualitative research and international relations, Veronica first became interested in the broader implications of climbing while living in the Middle East, where she witnessed the sport's social, environmental, and economic impacts firsthand. She pursued graduate research on the global expansion of climbing at Yale, where she also served as a research fellow for former Secretary of State John Kerry YC ‘66.
While at Yale, Veronica launched The Global Climbing Initiative to elevate local leadership, amplify underrepresented voices in the climbing world, and break down barriers to resources in the climbing industry. Today, GCI has supported 48 climbing communities across 27 countries through grants, equipment, and education.
