A note from our President

Dear fellow Yalies,

I write today to ask you to join (or renew) your membership with the Yale Club of San Francisco (YCSF).  YCSF is organized and fully resourced by Yale alumni, and we are working very hard to organize a rich and diverse set of programming that will help alumni of all backgrounds and generations in the Bay Area feel connected to Yale.  For a limited time, we are offering high quality YCSF logo items (Yeti coffee mugs and Patagonia sweatshirts) to anyone who purchases a new membership or renews their existing membership to YCSF.

In recent years, YCSF has hosted talks and fireside chats by prominent Yale alumni, faculty and administrators including Carol Christ M.Phil '69 Ph.D. '70 (Chancellor, UC Berkeley), Akhil Amar BA '80 JD '84 (Faculty, Yale Law School), President Richard Levin Ph.D. '74, President Peter Salovey Ph.D. '86, and three California Supreme Court Justices educated at Yale.  The club organizes social outings such as hikes and bike rides, happy hours, guided museum tours with special access, professional sports events (including tickets to Golden State Warriors games), holiday parties, and of course watch parties for The Game.

We also grant students of the Yale Graduate School summer research fellowships to conduct research in the San Francisco Bay Area. This year, thanks to the generosity of a few members of the YCSF Board, we are granting three fellowships on research topics of particular interest to Bay Area alums:
  - A Race on The Frontier: African American Lives, Labors and Communities in Northern California, 1850-1915
  - Reclaiming the Rock: The 1969 Occupation of Alcatraz and Indigenous Organizing in the Era of Relocation (1956-1971)
  - Bureaucratic Violence: Chinese Civil Rights, Racial Capitalism, and the Rise of Corporations.

Upcoming events include a talk on constitutional law by Professor Akhil Amar and a fireside chat with California Attorney General Rob Bonta BA ‘93 JD '98.

Your membership dues make it possible for us to have one of the most active and vibrant Yale Clubs in the world.  Coming out of the pandemic, we are counting on support from our alumni base to drive an ambitious slate of intellectual and social events, most of which are offered at a significant discount to our paid members.  For a limited time, we will offer unique YCSF-branded items to anyone who purchases or renews a membership (and these items cannot be obtained any other way):
  - New or renewing one-year members will receive a YCSF-branded Yeti coffee mug
  - New or renewing three-year members will receive a YCSF-branded Patagonia sweatshirt

Please note that these incentives are only available for full-priced memberships, not for discounted recent alumni memberships (but recent alumni can receive the incentives by purchasing full-priced memberships).

You can purchase or renew your membership here.

I hope that you will consider joining the Yale Club as a dues-paying member, and help your fellow alumni create a vibrant slate of events that will make you feel connected to your alma mater, three thousand miles away.

Best wishes,
Rahul
